Why authority status alone is not enough
When a carrier's insurance is cancelled, FMCSA does not suspend its authority the same day — in our data the suspension order follows a median of 17 days later. For that entire window the public record still reads Active while no primary coverage is on file. A check keyed on authority status shows those carriers as fine.
